maui penthouse
story
This home’s shell, including footprint, exterior fenestration, and load-bearing columns, had all been constructed when Kor took on the project, making it an exciting design challenge. A great room at the west edge of the building envelope centers the magnificent views of the water, while lift-and-slide doors lead out to a lanai and allow ocean breezes inside. Load-bearing pillars are clad in custom bronze paneling that emulates the bark of neighboring oceanfront trees, and shimmer at sunset. Bronze panels inside delineate the kitchen and dining area from living areas, but still allow for views throughout. Wooden slats further separate spaces, while guiding the eye toward the magnificent views. The master suite is located to the south to take advantage of water views and an existing lanai. A combination of textured and smooth glass panels allow light to filter through while mimicking the ocean break at the shore.
