marrowstone island
story
Nestled among the trees on Puget Sound’s Marrowstone Island, this home captures the views of Mystery Bay. Designed as an owner-built project, it is divided into separate structures—Main House, Guest House, and Garage—to reduce its footprint and minimize disruption to its ecosystem, including a bald eagle’s nesting site. The main house core is enclosed within Corten steel-clad boxes, while the living areas are defined by simple shed-roof volumes with exposed fir beams and ceilings. Stone chimney walls serve as grounding elements, adding a sense of permanence. Expansive multi-panel lift-and-slide doors dissolve the boundary between indoor and outdoor, integrating the home within its surroundings.
